Babamini, Maprik/Wosera area, Abelam People, New Guinea. Ancestral and spirit images decorate, consecrate and celebrate the ancestors at the Yam Festival (Harvest). Commonly made from rattan, painted with natural pigments. In the Maprik area, Babamini are sometimes made from wood. This mask is over 30 years old.
