Among the Vodou gods (loa), Erzulie holds a special place as the goddess of love, beauty, jewelry, dancing, flowers, and luxury. She wears three wedding bands, one for each husband: Damballa, Agwe, and Ogoun. She is often represented by a water snake or heart symbol. When the title la Flambeau (literally "the Torch") is added to the names of certain loa, it is meant to evoke a particularly fiery form of their power.
